Hatching eggs in school or at home can be an incredible learning experience and also a lot of fun! Chicken eggs take 21 days to develop at a temperature of 99.5 F and 40%-50% humidity up to day 18. On days 19-21 the eggs are in lock down and the humidity is raised to about 65%. The chick will make a small hole, or pip, in the large end of the egg and then "unzip" itself. Peep!
Sometimes you will get a hen that volunteers to do the work for you by becoming "broody". She will sit on a clutch of eggs and then raise up the babies.
